Army Neutralises Two Suspected Terrorists in Ondo, Recovers Weapons

Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade have neutralised two suspected armed terrorists and recovered weapons during a tactical operation along the Akunu–Auga Road in Ondo State.

In a statement released on Monday by Major Irabor Njoka, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the Nigerian Army said the operation, conducted on February 14, 2026, was based on credible human intelligence about the movement of criminal elements in the area. The troops, deployed at the Forward Operating Base Auga, intercepted the suspects, leading to a firefight that left two terrorists neutralised while others fled, reportedly injured.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) and local vigilantes, resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and ₦39,000 in cash.

The Nigerian Army described the action as part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and safeguard lives and property in Ondo State. The Brigade pledged to maintain clearance operations, strengthen patrols along known criminal corridors, and continue working with security agencies and local stakeholders to ensure stability.

The Army also called on residents to provide timely and credible information, highlighting the importance of public cooperation in ongoing security efforts. This comes shortly after the Amotekun Corps arrested at least 95 suspected criminals across Ondo State for offences including kidnapping, theft, burglary, and illegal mining.
