A mother and her son narrowly escaped death on Wednesday morning after a Lexus SUV overturned several times near the NYSC Bus Stop along the LASU–Isheri Expressway in Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq. The agency described the crash as a serious lone accident that occurred during peak traffic hours.

According to LASTMA, the Lexus Jeep with registration number KJA 39 JT was heading from Isheri towards Igando when the driver suddenly lost control. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted three times before coming to a stop in the middle of the busy corridor.

Traffic officers stationed in the area responded immediately, carrying out what the agency called a coordinated rescue operation. The occupants were pulled from the wreckage with visible bruises and mild trauma but survived the crash.

Police officers from the Nigeria Police Force’s Igando Division were also at the scene to maintain order and secure the area while the rescue was ongoing.

Family members of the victims were later contacted and arrived shortly after to take them for further medical attention.

To prevent further accidents and reduce traffic buildup around the Lagos State University axis, LASTMA officials worked with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to remove the damaged vehicle from the road. The wrecked SUV was subsequently handed over to the police for investigation.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed relief that no lives were lost. He wished the victims a speedy recovery and reiterated the agency’s commitment to swift emergency response and effective traffic control.

He also urged motorists to obey speed limits and ensure their vehicles are mechanically sound before hitting the road, warning that excessive speed and faulty brakes remain major causes of serious accidents on highways.
