Fubara Appoints New SSG, Chief of Staff Amid Rivers Political Reset

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the appointment of a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor named Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new SSG and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the new Chief of Staff. The appointments take immediate effect.

The statement also confirmed that both officials will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

No official reason was provided for the removal of their predecessors. Wokoma replaces Mr. Benibo Anabraba as SSG, while Ewule takes over from Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff.

The shake-up comes amid recent political developments in the state following the reconciliation between Fubara and his former ally, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The truce was brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after tensions escalated into impeachment moves against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Last week, the Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, announced the withdrawal of impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the President’s intervention.

The latest appointments are widely seen as part of a broader restructuring within the Rivers State Government. Recently, Fubara dissolved his cabinet of eight commissioners and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties, signaling a significant reset in the state’s political landscape.
