The Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has welcomed the judgment of the Oyo State High Court affirming the validity of the party’s November 2025 National Convention held in Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the Turaki-backed leadership described the ruling as a victory for internal democracy and party unity.
Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, upheld the legitimacy of the convention conducted on November 15 and 16, 2025, during which Tanimu Turaki (SAN) was elected to lead the party’s National Working Committee. The court granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi.
Among other orders, the court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise and give full effect to the decisions reached at the convention, having found it to be lawful and properly conducted.
The PDP said the judgment reaffirmed earlier court orders issued in November 2025, which provided the legal backing for the convention to proceed.
“The party welcomes this judgment as a vindication of both fact and law,” the statement read. “It reaffirms the obvious fact that the Ibadan convention was conducted properly, transparently, and in full compliance with the party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The party also commended the court for what it described as courage and commitment to justice, expressing confidence that higher courts would uphold the ruling if challenged.
The development adds a new twist to the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP. In January, a Federal High Court in Ibadan had annulled the same convention and restrained Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The dispute deepened after a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike set up a 13-member caretaker committee, appointing Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman. Both factions have since sought recognition from INEC, which declined to back either side pending the outcome of ongoing legal battles.
The crisis has led to the sealing of the party’s national secretariat and a series of court cases, including proceedings at the Court of Appeal, which recently reserved judgment on the consolidated suits.
Despite the turmoil, the Turaki-led NWC insists it remains committed to pursuing all lawful avenues to ensure that what it describes as the will of party members, expressed at the Ibadan convention, is upheld.
