Tensions in the Middle East have escalated further as Israel issued a stern warning to figures aligned with Iran, amid intensified military exchanges between the two longtime rivals.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, on Wednesday declared that any individual appointed by Iran’s leadership to advance hostile actions against Israel, the United States, or other regional countries could face targeted elimination.
In a post on X, Katz said that it “does not matter what his name is or where he hides,” stressing that such figures would be considered legitimate targets. He framed the warning as part of Israel’s broader security strategy to counter Tehran’s influence in the region.
The renewed hostilities follow coordinated air and missile strikes carried out by US and Israeli forces on strategic and government sites across Iran last Saturday. Iranian state media and international reports confirmed that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed during the initial wave of attacks, alongside several senior Iranian officials — a development widely seen as one of the most dramatic escalations in decades.
Iran has since launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli territory and US military bases in the Gulf and neighbouring states, deepening fears of a broader regional conflict.
Katz disclosed that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to heighten operational readiness under what he described as Operation “Roaring Lion.” He said the military had been directed to prepare and act “by all means necessary” to achieve its objectives.
The defence minister also reaffirmed Israel’s cooperation with the United States in countering Iranian influence, stating that efforts would continue to dismantle what he described as the regime’s capabilities and to create conditions for change within Iran.

The latest rhetoric reflects a long-standing geopolitical rivalry that has shaped security dynamics in the Middle East for decades. Analysts note that tensions have intensified in recent years over nuclear ambitions, proxy conflicts, and cyber warfare, with both sides maintaining hardened positions.
While Israel insists it will act pre-emptively against what it views as imminent threats, Iranian officials have repeatedly dismissed Israeli warnings as politically motivated.
