Abuja-Kaduna Train Services Fully Restored After Monday Disruption

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has fully restored train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route following a disruption earlier this week. The Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed on Wednesday that normal services resumed after swift intervention and safety improvements.

Opeifa reassured passengers that enhanced operational measures have been implemented to ensure safe and comfortable journeys. He noted the successful resumption of the AKTS return trip from Rigasa, Kaduna State, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, with support from local authorities.

The disruption occurred on Monday, March 16, near Asham Station, when a rear locomotive detached from train KA2 after leaving Jere, collided with the rear of the train, and caused operational difficulties. The train, carrying 429 passengers, crew, and security personnel, recorded no fatalities, though some passengers sustained minor injuries and received immediate medical attention.

The NRC emphasized that the swift response minimized the impact on commuters, and the Abuja-Kaduna service is now fully operational, safer, and more reliable.
