The Oyo State Police Command has begun an investigation following the circulation of a video in which a man identified as Shawama allegedly claimed responsibility for killing 32 people.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Command was taking the claims seriously, even though there is no record of the suspect ever being arrested by the police.
According to him, a full-scale investigation has been launched to verify the authenticity of the video and the claims made in it. He explained that the process would involve the use of advanced tools such as digital forensics and digital footprint analysis to ensure credible findings.
The police also called on members of the public to assist with useful information that could help identify and locate the suspect or anyone linked to the incident.

Olayinka assured residents that the Command remains committed to uncovering the truth and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
In the viral video, recorded in Yoruba, the individual claimed he killed 32 people during a crisis in Ibadan and alleged that security agencies later released and commended him—claims the police are now working to verify.
The video also showed other individuals expressing support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
