Arewa Forum Warns of Anarchy, Condemns Rising Wave of Attacks Across Nigeria

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has condemned the recent surge in violent attacks across several states, warning that Nigeria risks descending into anarchy if urgent and decisive action is not taken.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the group expressed deep concern over what it described as disturbing and tragic security developments nationwide.

The forum highlighted the recent bomb explosion in Maiduguri, Borno State, which left several people dead and many others injured. It noted that the incident came shortly after attacks on military formations in the state, resulting in casualties among soldiers and the destruction and looting of military equipment.

ACF also pointed to violent incidents in Plateau State, where communities were attacked and security personnel killed by armed groups. Similar cases, it said, have been recorded in Katsina, Kwara, Niger, and Zamfara states, further worsening the country’s already fragile security situation.

According to the group, these attacks have led to significant loss of lives and property, disrupted livelihoods, and deepened divisions within affected communities.

The forum described the pattern of violence as coordinated, alleging that extremist groups are deliberately targeting communities to destabilise the country.

It linked the attacks to insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and other criminal elements, noting that the methods used bear similarities to known terrorist tactics.

While condemning the incidents, the ACF extended its condolences to victims, their families, as well as the government and security forces.

However, it expressed dissatisfaction with the current security response, stating that efforts so far have not been sufficient to prevent recurring attacks or restore public confidence.

The forum called for a complete overhaul of the nation’s security strategy, urging authorities to demonstrate strong political will and take firm action against those responsible.

It warned that failure to tackle insecurity decisively could lead to widespread chaos, stressing that the country stands at a critical point.

The ACF concluded by urging the government to place national security above politics, insisting that immediate and decisive action is needed to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
