Tinubu Secures French Military Support, Warns of Rising Security and Economic Pressures

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disclosed that Nigeria has secured military support and equipment collaboration from Emmanuel Macron following a recent high-level discussion.

The President made this known on Sunday during a meeting with state governors at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, shortly after returning from his state visit to the United Kingdom. He said Nigeria is exploring partnerships with multiple countries and is ready to utilise its goodwill and existing credit lines to acquire the necessary equipment and training needed to tackle insecurity.

“I can report that after a lengthy discussion with President Macron, France is ready to collaborate with us on equipment and support,” Tinubu said, adding that efforts are ongoing to engage other international partners.

He described insecurity as the next major challenge facing his administration, stressing that it threatens development, progress, and national prosperity. According to him, a collective effort is needed to overcome terrorism and other criminal activities across the country.

Tinubu also revealed that the acquisition of military equipment was a key part of his discussions during the UK visit, where he met with top British leaders, including Keir Starmer and King Charles III.

On the economic front, the President warned that the ongoing Middle East crisis could worsen inflation and reduce purchasing power in Nigeria, particularly through rising fuel prices, transportation costs, and food prices.

He urged governors to prioritise support for vulnerable citizens, noting that while progress has been made, more needs to be done to ease the burden on Nigerians.

Tinubu also extended condolences to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum over recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri, reiterating his administration’s commitment to strengthening security through increased investment in technology, equipment, and logistics.

Nigeria continues to face multiple security challenges, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, and widespread kidnapping. The President, however, expressed confidence that with sustained efforts and international collaboration, the country will overcome these threats and restore stability.
