President Bola Tinubu has announced that all his salaries since assuming office in May 2023 will be donated to a special welfare fund for injured military personnel and the families of fallen soldiers.
Speaking during his 74th birthday commemoration, the President directed the creation of a dedicated account to support service members who have suffered injuries in the line of duty, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who died serving the country.
He explained that the initiative is meant to complement existing military welfare and insurance schemes, ensuring that affected families receive additional care and support. According to available figures, the total contribution over his four-year term—factoring in salary and allowances—could exceed ₦120 million.
Tinubu stressed that the move is rooted in a sense of national responsibility, noting that those who risk their lives for the country deserve sustained support and dignity. He also called on governors, lawmakers, private organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund.
The President expressed confidence that the initiative would provide hope for wounded soldiers, especially those living with severe injuries, and improve the welfare of families left behind.

He further reassured Nigerians that despite current economic and security challenges, the country remains resilient and capable of overcoming its difficulties. Tinubu attributed some of the hardships to global factors, including ongoing tensions in the Middle East, but maintained that ongoing reforms would lead to long-term stability and growth.
The announcement came during special prayers held in Abuja to mark his birthday, where religious leaders and government officials gathered to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and progress.
