Sokoto Governor Pledges Stronger Security Ties with Police to Combat Banditry

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies in the fight against banditry and other violent crimes.

The governor gave the assurance during a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Both leaders discussed strategies to intensify security operations in Sokoto State and across the country.

Aliyu stressed that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, not solely that of the Federal Government. He noted that security remains central to his administration’s development agenda, adding that no meaningful progress can be achieved without peace and stability.

To support security efforts, the governor revealed that his administration has procured and distributed over 200 patrol vehicles to various agencies since taking office. He described the move as part of a broader plan to improve logistics, response time, and operational effectiveness.

While acknowledging that banditry remains a serious challenge, Aliyu said security forces have made notable progress in recent months and urged them to sustain the momentum. He highlighted intelligence gathering and stronger cooperation among agencies as key factors in addressing insecurity.

The governor also called for deeper synergy among security outfits, warning that disjointed efforts could weaken the fight against organised crime.

Aliyu commended the former Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Musa, for his dedication and contributions, urging the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to build on that foundation.

In his response, Egbetokun praised the Sokoto State Government for its continued support and assured that the Nigeria Police Force would maintain close collaboration with the state to improve security and protect citizens.
