Jang, Lalong Pledge Unity to Tackle Plateau Insecurity

Former governors of Plateau State, Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong, have pledged to work together to address the growing security challenges in the state.

The two leaders made the commitment on Thursday in Jos during the visit of President Bola Tinubu, following a recent attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where 28 people were killed and several others injured.

Jang described the incident as “one too many” and assured that key stakeholders would unite to confront the situation. He warned that the persistent insecurity was undermining economic growth and could be part of efforts to destabilise the 2027 general elections.

“I believe Plateau is still the home of peace and tourism,” he said. “Past administrations have all faced security challenges, and the current government is no exception. But we will unite to fight this. Some people may want to sabotage the next election, but by the grace of God, we will resist it.”

He also urged President Tinubu to engage directly with Plateau leaders in a special session to find lasting solutions and adopt proactive measures against insecurity.

Lalong, now representing Plateau South in the Senate, echoed Jang’s position, stressing that collective leadership is key to restoring peace. He reflected on his experience as both Speaker and governor, noting that insecurity has been a recurring challenge across administrations.

“When leaders come together, we can find solutions that will bring lasting peace to Plateau,” he said.
