The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Saihanu Ahmad, in connection with an armed robbery at an off-campus students’ lodge belonging to Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on April 5, 2026, when two armed men reportedly stormed the lodge and carted away several mobile phones and a laptop.
Four students later reported the attack to the ‘E’ Division in Yalwa, prompting an investigation by the police.
Items stolen during the robbery include multiple smartphones—among them iPhone models, Samsung devices, Tecno phones, and a Redmi A3—as well as a Samsung laptop.
Police operatives were able to recover one of the stolen items, a Redmi A3, from the arrested suspect.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and intensify efforts to apprehend the second suspect who remains at large.
He also commended the officers involved in the arrest and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to support crime-fighting efforts.
The police say investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court once the process is complete.
Authorities also advised students living off-campus to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, assuring residents of increased patrols and surveillance to prevent similar incidents.
