Police Arrest Suspects for Traffic Violations, Abduction of Officer in Ondo

Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested several suspects linked to a series of traffic and criminal offences, including the abduction of a traffic officer, assault, reckless driving, and obstruction of law enforcement.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrests followed separate incidents in Akure and surrounding areas.

The first incident occurred on April 3, when two suspects—Olopade Abraham and Emmanuel Taiwo—allegedly violated traffic rules at Cathedral Junction in Akure.

According to the police, a Senior Traffic Warden, Kehinde Oliniju, intercepted their vehicle and instructed the driver to report to the station. However, the driver reportedly fled the scene with the officer still inside the car.

Police said a patrol team from the Fanibi Division quickly responded after an alarm was raised and intercepted the vehicle at Winners Chapel Junction along Ondo Road, successfully rescuing the officer. The suspects were arrested along with the vehicle.

In a separate incident on April 5, a police patrol team at the Oba-Ile axis stopped another vehicle for driving against traffic.

During the operation, Adeyanju Tolutope, alongside her husband who is currently at large, allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer.

All suspects connected to the incidents have been charged to court.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, praised the officers for their professionalism and swift response, reiterating the command’s zero tolerance for traffic violations and attacks on law enforcement personnel.

He also urged residents to obey traffic laws and cooperate with security operatives to maintain order and safety on the roads.
