No fewer than 11 people have died after a vehicle plunged off the Eruku Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.
The tragic accident was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Afolabi Odunsi.
According to the statement, the crash occurred late Saturday night and involved a gold Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE722KJ.
Odunsi explained that the vehicle reportedly somersaulted before falling off the bridge, trapping all occupants inside after the doors became locked on impact.
“All 11 people on board, made up of 10 adult males and one adult female, lost their lives in the crash,” he stated.
Operatives of the FRSC rescue team from the Itori Unit Command were immediately deployed to the scene following the incident.
With assistance from residents of the area, rescue officials reportedly dismantled parts of the vehicle to recover the bodies of the victims.

The remains of the deceased were later deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ifo.
According to preliminary findings by the FRSC, driving under the influence and overloading were suspected to be the major causes of the accident.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists travelling along the Abeokuta-Lagos route to be more careful, especially during night journeys.
He also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash.
