Argentina Stay Top of FIFA Rankings as Nigeria Holds 26th Position

World champions Argentina have retained their place as the number one team in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday, further cementing their status ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The reigning world champions remain at the top of the global rankings after recording strong results in recent international matches.

Spain continue to occupy second position following a draw and a victory in their latest fixtures, while France sit third despite suffering a defeat before recovering with subsequent wins.

England remain fourth in the rankings, with Portugal climbing into fifth place after a series of impressive performances. Brazil are ranked sixth.

Nigeria maintained its 26th position in the world rankings after a mixed run of results during the international break.

The Super Eagles enjoyed success at the Unity Cup in London, where they secured victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica. However, they later played out a 2-2 draw with Poland before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly.

Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked team, occupying seventh place globally and continuing to build on its impressive rise in world football.

The latest rankings come as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament will feature 48 teams for the first time, making it the largest World Cup in history.
