The Kogi State Government has confirmed the rescue of four people who were kidnapped during an attack on an unauthorised examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said the victims were freed following a coordinated security operation ordered by Governor Usman Ododo immediately after the incident.
According to Fanwo, the governor directed the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (retd.), to lead a joint rescue mission involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes and other security agencies.
He explained that security operatives launched an intensive search of the forest where the kidnappers were believed to be hiding.
Fanwo said the governor had earlier assured residents that every effort was being made to secure the release of the victims while inspecting newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers purchased by the state government to strengthen security operations.
He said the sustained pressure mounted by security forces forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee.
"Security operatives remain in the forest, and the operation is still ongoing," he said.
The commissioner confirmed that the rescued victims include the school principal, a NECO official and two students.
"They are safe, in good condition, and are currently undergoing debriefing and medical examination with security agencies," he added.
Fanwo praised the Nigerian Army, DSS, Police, local vigilantes and other security personnel for what he described as their courage and professionalism during the rescue operation.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting Kogi State's security efforts, saying the President directed security agencies to provide all necessary assistance to ensure the victims were rescued.
"The support from the Federal Government played an important role in achieving this successful outcome. We appreciate the President for standing with Kogi State in protecting lives and property," he said.
The state government reiterated its commitment to tackling insecurity, promising to continue investing in intelligence gathering, security equipment and stronger collaboration among security agencies to keep residents safe.
