The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Pastor Etetim Udo, the Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries in Oron, who is suspected to have taken his own life.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the command received a distress call on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at about 8:18 a.m.

A resident told the police that he noticed an unusual crowd at the church premises, where he normally parks his motorcycle. He later learned from the pastor’s children that their father had allegedly committed suicide.

Police officers immediately responded to the scene. Preliminary findings showed that the pastor was found hanging inside the church with a twisted mosquito net rope.

Investigators processed the scene, took photographs, and recovered relevant items to support forensic analysis and ongoing investigations.

The body was taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed the pastor was dead. His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary, where an autopsy will be carried out.
