In response to a viral video showing an altercation with Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, the member representing Aba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has publicly apologized to Nigerians and the House leadership. The lawmaker, Alex Mascort Ikwecheigh, expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging that the incident, which began as a misunderstanding, escalated in ways he now regrets.

Ikwecheigh stated, "I sincerely apologize for my words and actions during this incident, recognizing the distress it has caused to Citizen Abuwatseya, his family, and the public." He emphasized his commitment to using alternative dispute resolution methods, which he says have helped reach a respectful resolution.

Additionally, Ikwecheigh extended apologies to the Inspector General of Police, recognizing his remarks may have unintentionally disparaged the office and the police force. Apologies were also offered to the House leadership for any negative impact on the institution’s reputation.

Reflecting on his role, Ikwecheigh described this incident as a "humbling reminder of the necessity for restraint and self-control." He pledged to grow from this experience and to serve as a more empathetic representative, especially given his recent strides in constituency support across health, education, and economic empowerment.
