Abuja Hospital Celebrates First Triplets Born Through IVF with Scholarships

Alliance Hospital in Abuja has celebrated the birth of its first triplets conceived through its In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) programme by awarding scholarships to the children from primary school through to university. This milestone was achieved just over a year after the inauguration of the hospital’s state-of-the-art IVF centre.

Chief Medical Director of Alliance Hospital, Christopher Otabor, highlighted the significance of this achievement, especially considering the high success rate of the IVF procedures at the hospital. Otabor shared the inspiring story of a woman from Canada who, after multiple unsuccessful IVF attempts in her home country, successfully conceived at Alliance Hospital. He also noted that the IVF centre is currently managing nearly 15 ongoing pregnancies.

Otabor attributed the hospital’s success to its investment in top-tier equipment and a dedicated team of professionals, boasting a 70% success rate in their IVF procedures, which is significantly higher than the global average success rate of 35% to 40%. “Excellence in performance is contingent upon excellence in learning and effort,” he said.

In recognition of the triplets' birth, each child will receive ₦100,000 annually for primary and secondary education, and ₦300,000 annually for university education. Otabor emphasized that while the financial aid may not cover education at prestigious institutions like Harvard, it will substantially alleviate their educational expenses.

Ahmed Isah, the Ordinary President of the Berekete Family, represented by Pamella Pius, was the guest of honour at the celebration. He remarked that this development would bring joy to many households struggling with infertility. "Today, we celebrate the first IVF babies born at Alliance Hospital. It is a moment of elation for us at Human Rights Radio and Television to witness not just one, but three babies welcomed into the world simultaneously," Isah said.

The father of the triplets, Greg Osakwe, expressed his gratitude for the support and successful outcome after years of battling infertility. “Today, we rejoice that the Almighty has blessed us and wiped away our tears,” he said.

The birth of the triplets marks a significant milestone for Alliance Hospital, showcasing the success and impact of their IVF programme and bringing hope to many families facing similar challenges.
