Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), has emphasized the importance of implementing strong internal control mechanisms to guard against corruption, fraud, and financial mismanagement. Speaking at a training program organized by the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (CITM) in Abuja, she stressed the need to safeguard public funds and protect the interests of the government and the public.
Represented by Alhaji Muhammed Aliyu, Director of Special Duty, the AGF highlighted the significance of promoting a culture of compliance and implementing robust internal controls to curb corruption in the polity. She urged treasury managers to prioritize the highest ethical standards in their work and actions as professionals, emphasizing transparency, integrity, and accountability in managing public finances.
Mrs. Madein emphasized that ethical conduct in treasury management involves principles such as transparency, honesty, accountability, and fairness. She underscored the responsibility of treasury managers to uphold these principles to maintain public trust and foster a culture of integrity and transparency within their organizations.
In his remarks, the Registrar of CITM, Mr. Olumide Adedoyin, emphasized the importance of empowering professional associations like CITM to curtail financial crimes and fill gaps in financial management. He stressed that sound treasury management is crucial for safeguarding the nation's financial system, fortifying financial inflow, and reducing corruption.
