The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate investigation into a viral incident involving alleged misconduct by a senior Nigerian Army officer and two soldiers.
This was disclosed in a statement by Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The incident, captured in a widely circulated audio-visual recording, reportedly shows an altercation between the army personnel and a man and woman within the Abuja metropolis.
Maj.-Gen. Nwachukwu stated, “The circumstances leading to this incident are not clear at the moment. However, the Acting COAS has ordered an immediate investigation to unravel the true circumstances surrounding this altercation.”
He reassured the public of the Nigerian Army’s dedication to serving and protecting all law-abiding citizens, as mandated by the Constitution, and emphasized that the investigation would be thorough and transparent.
“The Nigerian Army urges the public to remain assured that due diligence will be applied to reach a logical conclusion on this matter,” he added.
This directive underscores the Army’s commitment to upholding discipline within its ranks and ensuring accountability for any alleged misconduct.
