From economic projections to political reforms, today’s major stories reflect key issues shaping Nigeria’s future — including the naira’s outlook, electoral credibility, religious inclusion, a sensitive assault case, and fresh entertainment drama.
Here are the top headlines making waves this afternoon:
1. Dangote predicts naira could strengthen to N1,100 per dollar in 2026
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has projected that the naira could appreciate to as low as N1,100 to the US dollar within 2026.
Speaking at the Nigeria Industrial Policy launch in Abuja, Dangote said reforms such as reducing import dependence could boost the currency, adding that Nigeria must focus on electricity stability and stronger industrial incentives.
According to him, the country’s economy could improve significantly if local manufacturing is protected and properly supported.
2. Ex-INEC commissioner urges Tinubu not to sign new Electoral Act
Former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini, has warned President Bola Tinubu against signing the Electoral Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026, claiming it could create confusion and weaken Nigeria’s electoral process.
Igini expressed concern over amendments affecting electronic transmission of results, insisting that the removal of strict real-time transmission requirements could open doors for manipulation.
He urged the President to return the bill, saying electoral credibility must not be compromised.
3. Kaduna resumes Christian pilgrimage after 11 years
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved 50 Christians for pilgrimage, ending a programme that had been suspended for 11 years.
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna, Rev. Ma’aji Bawa, welcomed the move, describing it as a sign of renewed confidence and inclusion.
He stressed that pilgrimage is a spiritual obligation and expressed hope that more beneficiaries will be included in future exercises.
4. TikTok rape allegation: Lagos refers case to Ogun Police
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has transferred the case of TikTok user Mirabel — who alleged she was raped in her apartment — to the Ogun State Police Command.
The agency confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and therefore falls outside Lagos jurisdiction. It added that the survivor has been discharged from the hospital and all necessary information has been forwarded to the relevant authorities.
