The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, recently completed a four-day operational tour of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) units across the South-West, from 12 to 15 December 2024. His visit focused on enhancing operational readiness and prioritizing personnel welfare. Key locations in Lagos, such as the 055 NAF Camp Victoria Island and 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot (ACMD) in Ikeja, were part of the inspection. During the visit, the CAS reviewed ongoing infrastructural and technical upgrades, and took part in a symbolic tree-planting exercise at the 643 Equipment Supply Depot (ESD), highlighting the NAF's commitment to sustainability.
In addition to his inspection of Lagos units, the CAS commissioned the NAF Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) Multipurpose Hall at Sam Ethnan Air Force Base Ikeja, a project led by NAFOWA National President, Dr. Rakiya Abubakar. The facility is designed to improve welfare and family activities at the base. The tour continued with visits to the new Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School in Igbara-Oke, Ondo State, and the NAF Institute of Safety in Ipetu Ijesha, as well as the Air Force Research and Development Institute (AFRDI) in Oshogbo.
The CAS also assessed the progress of the NAF School of Finance and Accounting (NAFSFA) in Ibadan, Oyo State, emphasizing innovation and capacity-building. During his visit to the AFRDI, he reviewed ongoing projects aimed at advancing indigenous technology. At each location, Air Marshal Abubakar engaged in Durbars, military-style town hall meetings, reinforcing his Command Philosophy and encouraging valuable feedback from personnel.
The tour reinforced the NAF’s dedication to teamwork, discipline, and innovation, laying the groundwork for a more agile and resilient Air Force prepared to face future security challenges while maximizing the value from ongoing investments in personnel and infrastructure.
