Air Peace has confirmed the arrest of a passenger on board Flight 47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt on February 19, 2025, after he was found in possession of a missing item. The suspect was detained upon arrival at Port Harcourt International Airport (PHC) and handed over to the police for further investigation.
In a statement, Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications at Air Peace, expressed concern over the increasing incidents of in-flight theft, which have prompted the airline to implement enhanced surveillance measures onboard its flights.
Enhanced Security Measures to Curb In-Flight Theft
"We have found it necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding this incident. A thorough search was conducted after landing, and a passenger was found with a missing item. He was subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities for further action," Ndiulo said.
The airline has now reinforced its zero-tolerance policy against such misconduct and is taking stringent steps to prevent future occurrences.
To enhance security, Air Peace has:
- Instructed cabin crew members to remain extra vigilant throughout flights.
- Intensified in-flight announcements to educate passengers on safeguarding their belongings.
- Recommended the blacklisting of the identified suspect, ensuring he is barred from future flights.
Commitment to Passenger Safety
Air Peace reassured travelers of its commitment to a safe and secure flying experience, urging passengers to cooperate with security protocols and report any suspicious activity.
"As a leading airline, we will continue to prioritize the safety and comfort of our passengers while working closely with security agencies to maintain high operational standards," Ndiulo added.
