Airport Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Over Alleged ₦48.5m Romance Scam

The Airport Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Precious Onudhona, over his alleged involvement in a romance scam valued at ₦48.5 million.

Onudhona, a native of Delta State, was apprehended on February 2, 2026, at the Lagos airport while attempting to board a flight to Asaba. The arrest followed what the police described as actionable intelligence.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said operatives of the Anti-Fraud Unit carried out the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminals from using the aviation environment to carry out illegal activities.

According to Adeola, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect joined a fraud syndicate in 2023 that specialised in romance scams. The group allegedly targeted unsuspecting victims through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, using fake profiles and fabricated stories to gain trust.

The police spokesperson said the suspect posed as “Travis Kevin,” whom he claimed was a white American medical doctor, to deceive victims. He allegedly went further to create a fake banking domain showing fictitious account balances, which he used to convince victims to send him money.

Investigations also showed that the suspect claimed the funds were needed for feeding and medical supplies after he allegedly sustained injuries while on duty. Payments were reportedly made through cryptocurrency transactions.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, ordered a full investigation into the case. She directed officers to identify and arrest other members of the alleged fraud syndicate to ensure justice is served.

She also reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities within airport facilities, describing the aviation environment as a sensitive corridor that must be protected from abuse.

Adeola added that the suspect would be transferred to the Interpol Section for further investigation and prosecution.

The arrest comes weeks after the command apprehended another suspected internet fraudster accused of defrauding foreign victims of large sums of money and valuable electronic devices.
