The Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has appointed Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the university and made available to PUNCH Online on Thursday. Prof. Oduwole succeeds Prof. Timothy Adebayo, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor ends this month.
At a valedictory ceremony held after the Council’s meeting on Wednesday, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, commended Prof. Adebayo’s leadership, describing him as a distinguished administrator who steered the university through remarkable growth despite Nigeria’s economic challenges.
“Between 2020 and now, this university has witnessed tremendous growth,” Okeowo said. “At a time when the nation faced serious economic turbulence, Prof. Adebayo ensured steady progress year after year. On behalf of Anglicans in the Supra West, I say thank you.”
Okeowo also acknowledged the contributions of the university’s management, staff, and principal officers, stressing that Adebayo’s achievements were the result of teamwork.
He restated the Council’s vision to position ACU among the top 1,000 universities globally, expressing confidence that the goal remains achievable under the new administration.
Introducing the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Okeowo noted that Prof. Oduwole’s appointment marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first female to occupy the position at ACU. He urged staff and stakeholders to extend their cooperation and prayers to ensure her success.
The Archbishop of Ibadan Province and Council member, The Most Rev’d Williams Aladekugbe, also praised Adebayo’s tenure, describing his appointment five years ago as a “divinely guided choice” that brought significant academic and infrastructural development to the institution.
Earlier in June, Prof. Adebayo had highlighted the integration of the Mind Education programme into ACU’s curriculum as one of his administration’s key achievements, noting its positive impact on students and global recognition.
