Amorim Slams Man United After Everton Defeat: “We Deserved to Lose”

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has given a brutally honest verdict on his team’s latest setback, admitting they fully deserved their loss to Everton despite playing with an extra man for over 70 minutes.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Amorim said his players failed to match Everton’s fight, intensity, and determination throughout the Premier League clash.

“They were the better team. We deserved to lose,” he said. “Twenty minutes into the game, the opponent gets a red card. We need to win this game no matter what.”

Everton’s lone goal sealed the victory at Old Trafford, even after midfielder Idrissa Gueye was bizarrely sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane.

Amorim noted that despite weeks of praise for the team’s progress, he has consistently maintained that the squad is still far from the standards expected at Manchester United.

“Old Trafford was ready for a big step forward, but we were not,” he added. “These past five weeks, everyone has been praising our evolution, but we are nowhere near where we’re supposed to be as a club.”

Manchester United spent £250 million in the summer to rebuild a squad that shockingly finished 15th last season. They now sit 10th in the Premier League table, grouped with Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool—just three points behind the top four.
