Anambra Government Cracks Down on Fraudulent Native Doctors, Approves Key Infrastructure Projects

Anambra

The Anambra State government has confirmed the detention and investigation of native doctors linked to fraudulent “get-rich-quick” schemes, notably those involving “Okeite” practices. Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, announced on Tuesday that security agencies are investigating the suspects under the 2025 Homeland Law, which targets criminal elements and regulates traditional medicine practices.

Mefor clarified that while the state is documenting traditional medicine practitioners, it is not issuing practice certificates. The decision was reaffirmed during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, where several development projects were also approved.

Key Projects Approved:

  • Nzam Headquarters Road: Construction awarded to Kanubeen Construction Ltd. at N801.5 million, with a six-week completion timeline.
  • Urban Boys Secondary School, Fegge: N48.5 million allocated for new staff offices, an exam hall, and a laboratory building, awarded to Harriets Millennium Estate Nigeria Ltd.
  • Community-Built Secondary Schools: The state approved the takeover of several community-built schools, pledging to upgrade facilities and integrate teachers into the public workforce.

Additionally, the SEC directed communities documenting non-indigenes to cease charging fees, emphasizing it as a social responsibility rather than a revenue opportunity.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for victims of fraudulent schemes and enhancing public infrastructure across the state.
