The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe, from Umuezeiyi Village in Achina, Aguata Local Government Area, for armed robbery and the defilement of a 13-year-old girl.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect allegedly stormed a shop in the same community on October 29, 2025, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe. He reportedly used a red polo shirt as a makeshift face mask, robbed the shop of ₦30,000, and abducted the minor.

Following a joint operation by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit in Awka and local vigilantes, Umeugokwe was arrested on November 11, 2025.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly made a voluntary confession. Police recovered the locally made gun, the small axe, and the red polo shirt used as a mask.
