Anambra Police Foil Car Snatching, Recover Stolen Items, Arrest Suspects

The Anambra State Police Command says it has foiled cases of car snatching, truck diversion, and child abduction in separate operations across the state, arresting three suspects and recovering stolen items.

In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operations followed strategic patrols and collaboration between the police and community security stakeholders under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

On September 23, operatives from Achalla Division, working with the Special Vigilante Taskforce, arrested two suspects, Chinwendu Ndieli and Uchenna Offodile, after a stolen Mack truck with registration number T 5003 LA was found parked near St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Achalla. The suspects confessed the truck was stolen from a company in Lagos.

In a separate operation the same day, police officers from Okpoko Division recovered a white Toyota Camry Spider (Reg. No. AWK 91 SR) abandoned along the Onitsha–Owerri Road. Another number plate, Delta 06A 90 DT, was also found in the vehicle.

Also in Ihiala, community youths assisted police in arresting Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo, accused of conspiring with two others to abduct three children aged six, three, and two. The children went missing while eating outside their home. Onuigbo, a neighbour to the victims, was rescued from mob action before being taken into custody.

Ikenga said investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the missing children. He assured residents that other parts of the state remain calm as crime prevention and counter-terrorism operations continue.
