Another Catholic Priest Kidnapped in Anambra State, Church Calls for Prayers

An alarming trend continues in Anambra State as gunmen have kidnapped yet another Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Christian Ike, parish priest of Saint Matthew’s Church in Ajalli, Orumba North local government area. The abduction occurred around 10am on Sunday as Father Ike was returning from morning mass.

This incident comes just weeks after Reverend Father Basil Chukwuemeka was abducted by gunmen at Nkpor Junction in Idemili North local government area. Reports indicate that Father Ike was kidnapped alongside another Catholic faithful.

Anambra State police spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, was unavailable for comment, but a senior police officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

The Catholic Church has also issued a statement through Reverend Father Lawrence Nwankwo, the Diocesan Chancellor, confirming the kidnapping and calling for prayers for the safe release of Father Christian Ike and Mr. Ogbonnia Aneke. The abduction took place while they were returning from Mass at an outstation of St. Matthew’s Parish.

As the community and authorities respond to this distressing development, concerns over security and the safety of clergy in Anambra State remain heightened.
