The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed another tanker explosion at a filling station in Dutse metropolis on Thursday, marking yet another fire incident in the state.
The police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, disclosed the incident in a statement on Friday, assuring the public that no lives were lost.
How the Explosion Happened
According to the police, the fire broke out at Shakkato Filling Station along Kiyawa Road while a tanker was discharging petroleum products into an underground tank.
"Suddenly, the fire ignited and became wild beyond the control of the filling station operators, who quickly alerted authorities to curtail the situation," Adam explained.
Firefighters Contain the Inferno
Upon receiving the emergency call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dutse led a team of policemen to the scene to control movement and prevent further dangers.
Firefighters from Dutse International Airport and the Federal Fire Service responded swiftly and managed to bring the inferno under control before it could cause further destruction.
No Casualties, Normalcy Restored
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) confirmed that normalcy has since been restored, and residents have resumed their daily activities.
The incident has, however, raised fresh concerns about safety measures at fuel stations, with many urging authorities to enforce stricter regulations on fuel discharge procedures to prevent future disasters.
