The All Progressives Congress (APC) has paid glowing tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a “massive and irreparable loss” to Nigeria and the world.

In a heartfelt statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party honored Buhari as an “enigmatic leader, iconic elder-statesman, and exemplary patriot” whose legacy of discipline, resilience, and selfless service will remain etched in the nation's collective memory.

Buhari, who died at the age of 82, was remembered not only for his simplicity and integrity but also for the transformational roles he played throughout his decades-long service to the country—as Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), military Head of State, and later as a democratically elected two-term President.

“Against the backdrop of his record of military service, the departed former President was an unlikely democrat but one of the most influential contributors to the strengthening and consolidation of our democracy,” the APC stated.

The party also lauded Buhari’s pivotal role in the formation of the APC, recalling how his leadership of the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) helped lay the foundation for the 2013 merger that birthed the party. It celebrated his historic victory in 2015, where he became the first opposition candidate to unseat a sitting Nigerian president.

On behalf of Acting National Chairman, Hon. Bukar Dalori, the National Working Committee (NWC), and APC stakeholders nationwide, Morka extended the party’s condolences to Buhari’s family, President Bola Tinubu, the federal government, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.

“May the Almighty Allah grant his soul Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.

Buhari’s death marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s political history, but his legacy as a resolute and principled leader is expected to inspire generations to come.
