President Bola Tinubu, members of his cabinet, 32 state governors, and over 8,000 delegates are set to converge in Abuja for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention holding Friday and Saturday.
The event will bring together party leaders from across all levels—national, zonal, state, and ward—as the APC prepares to elect new executives and outline its direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who spoke at a media briefing in Abuja, said the convention—tagged “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda”—reflects the party’s vision and future plans. According to him, about 8,453 delegates from across the country are expected to participate.
He explained that the gathering would serve as a platform for policy discussions, leadership transition, and strategic planning, while also showcasing the party’s achievements under Tinubu’s administration.
Idris assured that all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a smooth and transparent process, noting that various committees have completed their assignments.
Also speaking, former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, who chairs the convention’s central coordinating committee, expressed confidence that the event would proceed without disruption. He emphasised that the party’s zoning arrangement remains intact and dismissed concerns about possible legal challenges.
Ahead of the convention, some party members had raised concerns over alleged exclusion from contests. However, one of the aggrieved aspirants, Fubara Dagogo, said he would pursue resolution through internal party mechanisms rather than seeking legal action.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home during the convention. The move follows the planned closure of major roads around Eagle Square, the venue of the event.
The directive is aimed at easing movement and ensuring security as thousands of delegates and party supporters flood the capital city.
With hotels fully booked and preparations in full swing, the convention is expected to shape the APC’s internal structure and political strategy in the years leading up to the next general elections.
