The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasiru El-Rufai over allegations that the Tinubu administration has “weaponised poverty.” In a strongly worded statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the accusations as “baseless,” branding the trio as “displaced rent-seekers” desperate for power after years of exploiting Nigeria’s economy.
Morka accused the opposition leaders of failing to tackle poverty during their decades in public office, while praising President Tinubu’s “bold economic reforms,” including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate harmonization, which he said were dismantling corrupt systems and positioning the economy for long-term growth.
He said: “Entrepreneurs, farmers, and service providers are thriving, while rent-seekers like Amaechi and his coalition partners are left seething with rage.”
The APC insisted that Tinubu’s policies are yielding results, citing improved trade surpluses, rising local production, job creation, and a record 4.6% GDP growth in Q4 2024.
