Armed Herdsmen Attack Aliko Community, Killing Nine, Including Pregnant Woman

Tragedy struck Aliko community as suspected armed herdsmen, numbering over 15, attacked the area, resulting in the death of nine individuals, including a pregnant woman. The attack, which occurred on Sunday around 4 pm, took place in Usha Council Ward, Agatu Local Government area of Benue State.

The chairman of Agatu Local Government area, Hon. Yakubu Ochepo, confirmed the attack, stating that over 500 persons were displaced, with many others sustaining injuries. He lamented the loss of seven lives, including that of a pregnant woman, and called on both the State and Federal Governments to provide adequate security to enable the people of Agatu to return to their farming activities.

Agatu, located in Benue South Senatorial District, has been experiencing sustained attacks by herdsmen since January 2024. The Benue State Command Police, when contacted, stated that they were yet to receive a report on the incident, indicating the ongoing challenges faced by the community and the need for immediate intervention to ensure the safety of residents.
