Mikel Arteta has called on his Arsenal side to show resilience and character as they prepare for a crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Sporting Lisbon.
The appeal comes after a difficult spell for the Gunners, who suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, shortly after losing 2-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final. Those back-to-back losses ended Arsenal’s hopes of a historic quadruple.
Despite the setbacks, Arteta remains confident his team can bounce back and handle the pressure of competing on multiple fronts. He described the current situation as a challenging phase but insisted it is not beyond the team’s ability to overcome.
Arsenal are still in a strong position this season, leading the Premier League title race and pushing for their first-ever Champions League triumph. Arteta urged his players to stay focused, maintain belief, and continue performing at the level they have shown throughout the campaign.
He also stood firmly behind his squad, praising their effort over the past months and taking responsibility for recent results. According to him, this stage of the season presents an opportunity rather than a setback.

The team will take some confidence into the clash with Sporting, having beaten them convincingly in a previous meeting. However, concerns remain over injuries to key players like Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Magalhães, whose availability is uncertain.
Midfielder Christian Nørgaard echoed the manager’s message, urging the team to stay positive, learn from recent mistakes, and quickly refocus on the big matches ahead.
With their season still very much alive, Arsenal now face a defining moment that could shape their push for silverware.
