The family of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), has debunked viral claims that his son, Muhammed Babangida, rejected his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.
In a statement on Tuesday, Determine Saka, Lead Partner at Lambert and Curtis Nigeria Limited, described the circulating letter—purportedly written by Muhammed Babangida to decline the appointment—as “fake, mischievous, and the work of mischief makers.”
The fake letter claimed that Babangida turned down the offer due to "personal and professional considerations" that would prevent him from committing fully to the role.
“After careful reflection and consultation, I have decided, with utmost respect, to decline the appointment,” the forged letter read in part.
However, Saka firmly dismissed the document, stating:
“Not only is the letter fake, but it is also mischievous—clearly designed by individuals prioritizing selfish interests over our collective national good.”
He emphasized that Muhammed Babangida holds President Tinubu in high regard, describing the appointment as a “great honour” that he does not take lightly. Saka added that Babangida is fully aligned with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the reforms being championed by the administration.
The rebuttal comes amid growing scrutiny of public appointments and a recent wave of fake letters and misinformation targeting political figures.
