Bayagan-Ile Community Cries Out Over Kidnapped Monarch, Seeks Government Intervention

The Bayagan-Ile community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has raised concerns over the abduction of its traditional ruler, Kamilu Salami, the Ojibara of Bayagan-Ile, while lamenting the silence of security agencies since the incident.

The monarch was kidnapped on November 29, 2025, by armed bandits, throwing the peaceful farming community into fear and anxiety.

Speaking on Sunday, the spokesman of the Bayagan-Ile Royal Family, Rafiu Lawal, said the community had received no official updates from security agencies regarding efforts to rescue the king.

“Since His Royal Highness was abducted, the entire community has been in fear, tension, and emotional distress. There has been no official declaration, update, or public statement concerning the incident,” he said.

Lawal explained that the community and the royal family had been left to make difficult efforts on their own to secure the monarch’s release, stressing that their resources were limited.

“The community alone cannot carry this burden. We urgently need the intervention and strategic involvement of the Kwara State Government to support our efforts,” he appealed, calling on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and federal security agencies to step up operations and provide timely communication.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, assured that the police were working tirelessly to rescue all abducted victims safely.

“The command is doing everything within its capacity to ensure their safe return. You recall the Commissioner of Police paraded some collaborators on Friday; the police are extracting information from them,” she said.

The kidnapping has intensified growing fears over banditry and insecurity in rural Kwara communities, especially those near forest routes that stretch into Kogi, Niger, and other parts of the North-Central region.
