One year after the tragic explosion that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, residents have revealed they are yet to receive the compensation promised to them.
Speaking at an interdenominational service commemorating the anniversary of the devastating incident, Pastor Muyiwa Bamgbose, President of the Bodija Estate Residents’ Association (BERA), expressed concerns over the plight of affected families. Many remain displaced, with several damaged properties abandoned and overgrown with weeds.
Honoring the Victims
The service, organized by BERA in collaboration with the Dejo Oyelese Vigilante Group (DOVG), was held at the Bodija Estate Baptist Church to honor the five residents who lost their lives:
- Mr. Fimihan Fagbemi
- Mr. Toluwalase Kehinde
- Mr. Ladipo Azeez Oyebamiji
- Mrs. Agnus Bolanle Badmus
- Mr. Bolu Adebiyi
The explosion also left over 70 people injured and damaged more than 200 houses, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Call for Justice and Unity
Pastor Bamgbose urged authorities to deliver on their promises of compensation and support, stressing the need for justice and accountability. He also encouraged residents to draw strength from the tragedy, fostering unity and resilience within the community.
The service served as a somber reminder of the lingering challenges faced by the Bodija community as they continue to rebuild their lives.
