BULLYING THE OLD BLUE EYED MONSTER: PARENTTS AS FODDERS

Bullying is described as the unwanted aggressive behavior amongst school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. This behavior is repeated over time. The kids that are bullied and those that bully others may have serious lasting problems. Most of the thugs and criminals that proliferate out environment today started from being bullies. Bullying, for avoidance of doubt includes such actions as making threats, attacking someone physically or verbally.

The three major types of bullying are verbal-that is teasing, name calling, inappropriate sexual comments, taunting and threatening to cause harm. The 2nd type is social bullying that involves hurting someone’s reputation. Leaving someone on purpose, telling other children not to be friends with someone and embarrassing someone and embarrassing someone in public.

The 3rd class of bullying is the physical type that involves hurting a persons body. Hitting, kicking and pinching. Bullying in schools is as old as the oldest secondary school in Nigeria and can happen during or after school hours. Parents to me give impetus to bullying. Nouveau riche parents, who believe that money answereth all things. Send their vulnerable children to boarding schools even as they indulge them with everything money can buy.

The innocent young ones flaunt these things obliviously of the dangers of landmines ahead. Perhaps the most silly angle of it all, is when parents push their 9, 10, or 11 year old daughters to the boarding house. These are tiny tots who have to contend with puberty away from the gaze and guidance of the parents. Mothers of the 21st century are helping matters. By outsourcing parenting because your money can take care if it makes you an accomplice and fodder for bullying.
