The Citizen Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER) has endorsed the National Identity Management Commission's (NIMC) actions to address data breaches involving online vendors. CASER commended NIMC for its proactive steps in identifying and shutting down websites selling National Identity Number (NIN) data.
In a statement by its executive director, Frank Tietie, CASER acknowledged NIMC's swift response and confirmed that the commission's database remains uncompromised. CASER praised NIMC for identifying at least five phishing websites and ensuring their closure, demonstrating responsible governance.

CASER's investigation revealed that several individuals involved in these breaches have been arrested. The organization urged NIMC to continue collaborating with security agencies to hold all culprits accountable, regardless of their status.
Additionally, CASER advised Nigerians to be cautious of phishing sites and suspicious links, especially those shared in WhatsApp groups, to protect their personal information from unauthorized access.
