Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, has disclosed that the Federal Government has submitted the necessary documents for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based pro-Biafra agitator and secessionist, to Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s year-end review program, Musa expressed optimism about the progress made in Ekpa’s case.
Ekpa was arrested by Finnish law enforcement on November 21 and subsequently imprisoned by a district court in Päijät-Häme for “spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.”
Key Developments
- Extradition Efforts: Musa confirmed that most requirements for Ekpa’s extradition have been forwarded to Finland by the Federal Government.
- Legal Action Pending: The CDS refrained from commenting further but assured Nigerians that appropriate legal measures are being pursued.
“The Federal Government has actually forwarded most of the requirements to the Finnish Government. So, I’m sure the right thing will be done,” Musa stated.
Implications
Ekpa’s activities have been linked to violent agitation and unrest in parts of southeastern Nigeria. His arrest and potential extradition mark significant steps in addressing issues of separatism and terrorism.
