A Kano High Court has sentenced a 47-year-old Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, to death by hanging for the fatal stabbing of his 22-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani. Frank, a resident of Railway Quarters Kano, was found guilty on one count charge of culpable homicide.

Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, in delivering the judgment, noted the prosecution's successful demonstration of the case beyond reasonable doubt. He cited inconsistencies in the defendant's testimony and declared him guilty, recommending mercy by the Kano State Governor on behalf of the convict.

The incident, which occurred on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters Kano, saw the convict stabbing the deceased with a knife in her house. Despite the victim being rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The prosecution, led by the Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi, presented six witnesses and four exhibits to substantiate their case. The defence, represented by Muhummad Dan’azumi, argued for the defendant's innocence and pleaded for mercy based on self-defence claims. In response, the victim's mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, stating that justice had been served.
