Dr. Henry Ijabo, the Benue State Epidemiologist, has confirmed that a recent cholera outbreak has resulted in three deaths over the past two weeks. Speaking to newsmen, Dr. Ijabo reported 13 cholera cases so far, with 10 patients currently under observation.
Dr. Ijabo emphasized the importance of halting open defecation, noting that there is no vaccine for cholera as it is not part of routine immunization programs. He urged residents to maintain high hygiene standards to prevent the disease's spread.

The outbreak is most prevalent in the Agatu, Ado, and Otukpo local government areas within the Benue South senatorial zone. Dr. Ijabo advised communities in these areas to be particularly vigilant and proactive in maintaining cleanliness.
Reports indicate that Benue State, particularly the Benue South Senatorial district, has struggled with recurring cholera outbreaks for over a decade, affecting numerous communities and resulting in significant health challenges.
