Close Call: Worshippers Escape Death in Borno Mosque Blast

Two worshippers narrowly escaped death when an improvised explosive device (IED), strapped to a suspected suicide bomber, detonated near a mosque in Biu LGA of Borno state. The incident, which took place around 8 pm on Sunday during night prayers, resulted in the death of the suspected bomber.

According to the state's police spokesperson, Daso Nahum, the suspected bomber was near a mosque at a popular roundabout when the IED exploded. Two individuals were injured in the blast and were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. The identity of the suspected bomber has yet to be confirmed, but authorities suspect he was carrying out a suicide bombing.

A combined team of security personnel was deployed to the scene to restore normalcy. The police spokesperson advised the public to remain vigilant, particularly during Ramadan, and to report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

This incident follows two recent bomb explosions at separate construction sites in Dikwa LGA of Borno state, where two labourers lost their lives. The first explosion occurred at Koibe Primary School, while the second explosion killed another construction worker on the outskirts of Koibe.
