The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged the 6,195 graduating soldiers of the 88 Regular Recruits Intake to remain resolute, professional, and patriotic as they prepare to join the frontlines in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats.
Delivering his address during the Passing Out Parade at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, General Oluyede reminded the recruits of the enormous responsibilities that come with the uniform, emphasizing that the Nigerian Army is a professional force entrusted with safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation.
“As you pass out today and take your place in this noble profession, be aware that you will form part of our nation’s solution to the challenges of terrorism and insurgency,” Oluyede said.
“Wherever you are deployed, your actions must reflect the training you have received. You must display courage, discipline, loyalty, and integrity, even in the face of adversity.”
“Your Journey Began on January 13”
The COAS recalled the recruits' first step into military life on January 13, 2025, praising their resilience throughout the rigorous training process. He noted that while the challenges ahead may seem daunting, their preparation will serve as a solid foundation for the battles to come.
“The life of a soldier is built on sacrifice and patriotism. You will face moments that test your will, but it is in those moments that your discipline and values will matter most,” he said.
Welfare and Future Recruitment
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede also reassured the new soldiers of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and career development, while revealing that the process for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake is already at an advanced stage.
“Take a short but well-deserved break and be ready to receive the next batch. Be assured that the Army Headquarters remains committed to supporting you and realising our collective training objectives,” he added.
Gratitude to President Tinubu and Stakeholders
The Army Chief expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continuous support of the Nigerian Army’s operations and modernization drive.
“I appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his steadfast belief in the Nigerian Army, as well as all stakeholders who have contributed to the success of our training and operational goals.”
The event, marked by a vibrant display of military precision and pride, comes at a critical time when the Nigerian military continues its push against insurgent groups across the northeast and other flashpoints in the country. With thousands of fresh troops now set to be deployed, expectations are high for a renewed energy in tackling Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
