Court Dismisses Emefiele’s Jurisdiction Challenge, Strikes Out Four Charges

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court has dismissed an application filed by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, challenging the court’s jurisdiction in a case involving charges of abuse of office amounting to $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

In his ruling, Justice Oshodi held that the court has the jurisdiction to try Emefiele, affirming that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) established territorial jurisdiction on counts eight to 26 based on the facts presented in the proof of evidence.

However, the court struck out counts one to four of the charges, which were related to allegations of abuse of office.
