An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has extended its order stopping the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc from releasing or tampering with funds belonging to the 30 Local Governments in Osun State.
The presiding judge, Justice Ladiran Akintola, made the ruling on Thursday, saying the order would remain in effect until Friday, October 10, 2025, when the case will continue.
Justice Akintola explained that the extension was necessary to ensure that all parties involved are given a fair hearing, as guaranteed by Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution.
“The case is adjourned till Friday, October 10, 2025, for further hearing, while the interim injunction shall continue to subsist,” the judge said.
During the court session, counsel to the plaintiff, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Musibau Adetunmbi, informed the court that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had filed an application to be joined in the suit. However, he said his team would oppose the move.
“Although the PDP has a right to a fair hearing under the Constitution, we will oppose their application for joinder. This case is simple and doesn’t require multiple parties,” Adetunmbi said.
He also noted that another lawyer, Kasim Gbadamosi (SAN), representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) former council chairmen, had filed a fresh application related to the same matter.
Gbadamosi later told the court he planned to withdraw the new application, arguing that issues of jurisdiction don’t need a formal filing. “The issue before the court is jurisdictional and doesn’t require a formal application,” he said.
He further argued that the case before the High Court was an abuse of judicial process since a similar case was already before the Supreme Court. “This matter should be struck out because it’s already pending at the Supreme Court,” he added.
Counsel to UBA Plc, Mutalib Ojo (SAN), agreed with that position and asked the court to suspend the case indefinitely until the Supreme Court makes a decision. “UBA is not a party to the Supreme Court case; we are only a neutral party here,” he said.
After hearing all sides, Justice Akintola adjourned the case until Friday for a ruling.
Earlier, the same court had granted interim orders preventing UBA from releasing or interfering with funds in the 30 Osun Local Government accounts. The judge also directed UBA to place a “Post No Debit” restriction on the accounts until the substantive case is decided.
The accounts in question belong to all 30 LGAs in Osun State — from Atakumosa East to Osogbo — each identified by name and account number.

The case, filed as Suit No. 1/1167/2025 before Court No. 5 of the Ibadan Judicial Division, is being handled by lawyer Olalekan Adeoye on behalf of the claimants.
A separate case filed by PDP-elected local government chairmen on the same issue was also adjourned till Friday for hearing.
